Can my QHY5L-II CCD double as a monochrome camera?

Recommended Posts

A thought I just had;

I discovered that the colour RGB filter fitted to my QHY5L-II screws off compketely, leaving the exposed sensor. I wanted to check: is this all a monochrome CCD is - an exposed sensor?

What I mean is should I want to do proper RGB filter wheel approach with this camera, all I need to do is remove the coloured filter?

Thanks.

Yes, you have got that completely wrong I am afraid, it is only the IR cut filter that you are unscrewing, the colour Bayer matrix is fixed to the front of the chip and can't be removed, you would have to buy the mono version of that camera for RGB imaging.

Nice try though :-)
