First images with a DSLR: Orion and M45

Out for the first time 2 nights ago just trying out my new 1100D. This was probably the best shot of the night. 

Next time out I will go for some more subs and try stacking them with DSS.

Nice shot, lots of detail.

Always good to include some shrubbery or trees as it helpd add scale.

Good to see the Hyades and Pleiades too.

What exposures did you use?

Thanks! 20 sec with an ISO of 1600. F/3.5 if I remember right.

This one isn't as good and I don't know what I had the camera set at. It's Cassiopeia above the tree. Only reason I'm sharing this one is I was wondering if I got a faint Andromeda galaxy or is it just some sort of artifact due to the exposure settings.
