Star test question?

Recommended Posts

Finally got to do a star test on my self colimated Mak 127 last night. I used a brightish star and defocused until I could see concentric rings, which looked pretty good to me. My question is does the diagonal and the inaccuracy of the eyepiece to diagonal fit, loose you any of the colimation that I carefully did looking through the front of the Mak?

many thanks

Clive

Clive,

Unfortunately yes.

Getting the straight through OTA collimated as best you can is a great starting point.

For comparison, repeat the test with your diagonal/ eyepiece and gently push them around to see the impact.

Such is life......
