4x Powermate and Canon 1100d.

Hi all. Can someone tell me if it is possible to connect a 4x Powermate to a 300p goto Dob and then connect a Canon 1100d to the Powermate please? I've never heard of it being done before but I would like to magnify an image of Saturn if possible. Hope someone can advise. Thanks, Chris.

Hi Chris,

Are you doing prime focus or afocal? If prime focus then you can purchase a nosepiece adaptor for 1.25 or 2inch with T-thread. If afocal then you will need an eyepiece projection unt (epu). Many are variable so it can adjust to the length of the eyepiece

It might be top-heavy at the eyepiece end, so I would suggest placing a weight a the mirror box end, otherwise you may put unnecessary strain on the drive(s). I have never tried so don't take my word for it!

Other dob owners may have other ideas on how you go about it.

whoop's - I forgot to mention a T-ring. You will need one to mate the camera to the OTA.
