You need to think the other way round. What does stellarium use to plot the star positions?

There are all sorts of databases, SAO, NGC, etc, etc. If you can do the maths, and there are libraries available to help then it is perfectly feasible. However it is not trivial. It is probably the sort of thing someone has already done and is readily available.
