What does DSS do behind the scenes?

Recommended Posts

Having become reliant on using DSS over the last few years and now moving to more sophisticated image processing software, I'm intrigued to know what DSS does when you start it off.

When it has finished, is spits out one picture but am I right that the sequence it does it is as follows?

Makes master bias.

Makes master flat.

Calibrates each light using these calibrated images.

Stacks those images.

If so, this explains what Pixinsight is trying to do in a step by step process. Having had a few days to mull this software over, I think I'm approaching the process from a DSS perspective, which is throwing me. As I now understand it, PI is a series of stand alone which does all of this, in individual steps (this came to me while looking at the predeveloped scripts) which the user then has control over.

With this I'm mind then, with PI, my process should be follows, using individual tools:

Make a master bias

Make a master flat

Calibrate each light using these frames

Align these frames

Stack the frames

Typed by me on my fone, using fumms... Excuse eny speling errurs.
