Finder guider on long FL?

Recommended Posts

I want to try a finder guider on a 12" 1500mm focal length scope in order to keep weight to a minimum. What I'm worried about is whether or not the finder will be able to detect smaller deviations which might appear small in the finder yet cause significant trailing in an image through such a long focal length. Does anybody have any experience at this? I do have a longer FL guidescope I could use but I'd rather not as it'll push the weight up even further on this already heavy setup.

The perceived wisdom is that with modern sub pixel guiding it should work with the right settings.

Mind you I guide my 10" f/10 with an f/9 guidescope so can't speak from experience.
