C/2011 L4 Comet Panstarrs

Recommended Posts

Wednesday 13 March 7.05-7.25pm - Lichfield

Took out the hefty Manfrotto tripod, 15x70 binoculars, compass, red head torch, camera etc, etc!

Set up around 6.40pm with a good view West....

Rang my mate to double check where it was supposed to be(!!!) with relation to the lovely crescent moon....

By 7.00 I was starting to think I was either looking in the wrong place OR it was behind a low lying bank of cloud ;-(

He said to go straight down from the moon and a little North - yep, just where the low cloud bank was.....

Bingo! First capture about 7.05pm, West-North West, just as he said!

Seen in the hand-held binoculars - NOT visible by naked eye....

Capture:

Full Frame Nikon D3

Nikkor AF-S 70-200 f/2.8 G ED VRII + 1.4x EII Nikon TC

Tripod + Cable release on Mirror Lock-up.

NIkon NEF RAW files processed in Adobe Lightroom

All exposure details added to the PDF booklet of the best ones!

So, a better result for me than the Transit of Venus!!!!

Best of luck if you haven't got it yet.....

Damian
