IRIS - has anyone used it?

Recommended Posts

I couldn't get on with it personally, but it does have a lot of powerful tools in there, many of them are as good as or better than the commercial equivalents. The user interface (or lack thereof, a lot of it requires command line input) made it hard for me to pick up. At the end of the day it is free, so there is no reason not to give it a try, you may find it suits your way of working.

I've used it since it was called QMIPS32 in 1999

Powerful.

I use it with the commands list open and run most things through the consol, makes 'trying again' with any step very easy as you have a record of what you've done.

Do go through the tutorials on the website, they will help you get familiar.

If you get stuck, PM me or reply to this thread a lot of it is just knowing what's possible.

There's also an IRIS usergroup

http://tech.groups.y.../Iris_software/

Do look at the tutorials on Buils IRIS page, there's also some more tutorials around

i.e. http://www.saratogas...html#Processing

I've tried pixinsight, DSS and others and while they all have their advantages I don't seem to be able to move on from IRIS.
