Imaging with a webcam

Recommended Posts

OK seeing as it is clear and I am on holiday I tried imaging from an AVI taken with a webcam. I found an old logitech cam and added a film canister to allow it to fit in the focuser on my 130PM. I had some limited success i think (havent done anything with the avi yet) but I found it hard to focus had to fit a 2x barlow in the end to get a clear focus.

Is there anything I am missing?, should I be able to get a focus with the webcam straight into the focuser?, bearing in mind at the moment I have the scope in the garden and the computer in the dining room. My wife is a willing (cough cough) assistant checking the focus on the computer while I focus manually on the scope. As I say it was just an idea seeing as I was at home.

Cheers

Mike.
