Capricorn Posted January 13, 2013 Share Posted January 13, 2013 No, the planet rotates around it axis in 24 hours, 15 degrees an hour.You align the rotational axis of the mount with the rotational axis on the earth and a motor moves the scope at the same rate rate as the earth.Simple approach is aim the rotational axis at Due North and the motor does the rest.The scope has no idea what it is pointed at or aimed at, it doesn't know if it is aligned, it just assumes it is aligned and rotates accordingly.If you pointed the whole lot due South not North then it still rotates just the wrong way and things whizz out of view really quick.
