Sputnik was a sphere about 2 foot across, I doubt you'd see much with any type of scope.

Is that all it was? I believe it weighed about 500kg. At any rate, I was about 9 or 10 years old, and it was a Russian satellite we were watching for. There was more than one Sputnik, too. I think they have all reentered. There is one or more of the early American satellites still in high orbit. Some night when I have clear skies, I'm going to set up to watch for one.

Spuknic 1 was visable from what i remember my dear old friend telling me, he observed it as the sun hit the probe.

I've finished a book on the whole space race thing, I think Sputnik was only around 10kg. It was just a radio transmitter and a battery.

Oh, you mean 'cabin fever'. We get that seriously about February, when we've been prisoners in our homes for three months, and all at once stampede for the airports and buy tickets for Florida and the Caribbean.

I've only being to Canada in the summer (or July and August as we call it!!) I was amazed how hot it was. All the Canucks were saying "Just stick around for a few months....."

Yeah, we usually get a week in August when it's 40 every day, then we get a week in January when it's -25 every day. Most of the populated part of Canada gets pretty warm in the summer, although only a few hundred km north of me, the ice on the lakes doesn't clear out until May. In Niagara, we re usually done with ice by April.
