EQ5 Synscan diagnostics

Does anyone know of a diagnostics tool for the EQ5 Synscan. I had it running with EQMOD, then for reasons unknown it refused to capture the Com port. It works correctly with my EQ6 and with a friends EQ6. I have two EQDIR modules, neither will connect now with the EQ5, but do with the EQ6's. The EQ5 works correctly with the Synscan handset and also can be controlled from Stellarium. So I've concluded that there is not a hardware problem, but something in the ini files perhaps, or some other software issue only associated with the Synscan motor controller.

Any ideas would be most welcome.
