Help with imaging the Sun in CaK

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I recently got a Imaging source DMK21AU04.AS mono camera, primarily for imaging the Sun & Moon but will also use it for planetary imaging as well.

Anyway, I had problems getting the image of the solar surface to focus on both my PST & PST CaK scopes, so I was advised to buy a low profile focuser as this would solve my problem. I have now done this & I can now get a really clear image with my PST but I'm still a little out with the CaK. The image is only a fraction out of focus but it is enough to prevent me from imaging at the moment.

So I'm looking for solutions to this problem but I'm unsure as to what the best way to go about it is & I'm hoping that someone one here has had the same problem & can share their solution with me. I had considered removing about 1cm from the focuser tube on the CaK as the low profile focuser still has a little room in the barrel to slide down into & this should give me the focus that I need. I'm wondering though if there is a less drastic method out there or would this be my best bet?

Many thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Cheers,

Jeff
