Dichroic filters may produce odd halos when light from stars reflects from the glass cover in front of the chip, then back off the filter onto the chip.

I'm sure I've seen examples of that posted here..

Ron Wodaski replied that the difference in light transmission can be very large

Perhaps he is thinking of the more complex filters where dichroics come into thier own. I haven't heard of that being the case with RGB filters where 1/10th - 1/5th is usually quoted. Should be easy enough to measure the difference.

... the cut off point can be more precisely controlled.

A Godsend with complex filters but perhaps a bit wasted on RGB filters. Hope to be comparing the two types sometime this season.
