Hidden Pier?

Does anyone have any ideas about a hidden pier?

I have this idea goung around in my head of a slide off bird table.

Great idea - I have an old tree-stump (30" tall), which also serves as a pivot for a see-saw, that I'm going to create a mount on. Hopefully I can make something accurate enough to always get north easily...
