Meade DS2820 Autostar Problem

Tried to align Friday night with the above scope and the alignment was way off.

Checked all the settings in the handset and reset them to my location twice just to make sure and the scope still wouldn't align on 1 and 2 star alignment.

After 6 attempts I gave up and used it manually.

I have put the motors through their callibration test using the handset 4 times now as suggested by a forum member but the scope still doesn't align.

I have used brand new batteries in the mount as well as a power pack in the garden but it still refuses to align.

This is an ongoing problem as it is fine one minute then not the next.

The last time this happened the scope would slew round and crash into the mount unless I stopped it in time.

Any further ideas before I launch said scope into orbit with frustration

Can anyone help because it's very frustrating and can only use the scope manually at the moment.
