Just why is it?

As predicted I got my solar filter just in time for spring storms, which basically means rainy or cloudy both day and night now. Why is it that it is often perfectly clear a week before we decide to get any astronomy equipment, then when we have it we can't use it due to clouds? My area is supposed to be in a drought...

Same here in our region of the UK, we have a hosepipe ban in force, though our rivers are bursting their banks due to the non stop rain we have had for 2 weeks.
