Afocal with non-SLR digital - type of cam?

I want to get a mid range camera for clamped afocal, at the moment i have a fujifilm av250 which is good and does avi at 720p among other stuff but i find the sharpness and quality could be better.

I have looked at compact snapshot types and something called a Bridge camera....I dont know what specs are better for astro etc..

Any ideas?

Edit - cant afford/dont really want a DSLR for prime focus - my scope seems to prefer afocal.
