Canon 550D with a Sky-watcher Explorer 150p

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, this is my first post here and if i can get my problem sorted then it will most likely not be my last post here:)

I would like to attach a canon 550D to the Sky-watcher Explorer 150p, but i don't really know what i would need to do this. From what i have read i need a T ring that is compatible with my camera and a prime focus adapter. I have read that the Sky-watcher 150p doesn't do so well with dslr cameras because it cant focus properly and so i would need something like a Barlow attachment? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

The old blue tube 150P scopes couldn't reach focus with a DSLR. The newer 'black diamond' versions with the 1.25"/2" Crayford focuser is fine. You can either use a T-ring screwed onto the bottom half of the 1.25" eyepiece adaptor or get a MaxDSLR adaptor or the FLO 2" adaptor. The longer Williams Optics style ones don't fit though.

I use a Baader MPCC to connect my 1000D to my 150P and I have no troble reaching focus. Have a look at my deep sky gallery to see the sort of thing you can do with a basic Canon DSLR on 150P. I think it is a great combo.
