Parallel mount conversion

Hi again people.

Well my new scope arrived today so I completed the new mounting system locked up the workshop and headed off home to install my new set up.

Well you have to get your priorities right don't you.

I have made the parallel mount from 50mm x 6mm Stainless Steel.

First thing was to machine the dovetail fitting onto the cross bar.

Then I mounted the 200mm Newt onto one of the legs.

Using a piece of angle I found the balance point of the scope.

This was duely marked on the leg.

I then repeated this with the new Frac.

It was then a case of Tig welding the pieces together aligning the balance points on the legs with the center line of the cross bar.

After that I fabricated a cross brace to run along the top of the cross bar, this is to prevent any 'sag'.

After I got home it was just a case of slacken the AZI clutch and rotating the mount head through 90 degrees.

Fit the new mount bar and then the scopes.

After several test runs to make sure nothing dramatic happened I am please to say it would appear to be a complete success.

My only alteration was to remove the central handle from my obsy roof because it hit the back of the Frac when I closed the roof.

Thanks

Graham
