algol
hi guys and girls, i currently run a 130pm skywatcher newtonian. however due to relatively poor skies locally and the effort of dragging the thing around i have been debating downgrading to a refractor as i prefer to look at planets/moon anyhow.so saying that what kind of refractor would be recommended? apperture size etc.any help is appreciated
barkis
If you restrict yourself to the Moon and Planets, then a long focal length Achromatic refractor will do a good job.I have a 150mm f8 Achro. and although it displays a bit of chromatic aberration, I ignore it, and enjoy the views it gives me.You would need a mount such as an EQ5 for such an instrument.-----Perhaps one of these would suffice. You still need to mount it though, but perhaps an Alt Az. would be OK, in view of the Objects you are interested in observing. The Vixen Mini Porta mount on the same page might interest you.Ron.http://tinyurl.com/c4y57sh
