Medium-Low EP for an F/6 refractor

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Looking for a medium-high EP for a WO Megrez refractor:

72mm aperture

432mm focal length

F/6 focal ratio

Currently have two EPs:

2-4mm Televue Nagler (so I believe this gives me 108x to 216x)

25mm Vixen NPL EP (and this gives me 17x)

Reading the EP sticky, seems to classify as a 'fast' 'scope, and that therefore 3/4 * 6 = 4.5mm should give my 2/3 'maximum' mag, which for this scope is x96

From that guidance, my TeleVue seems about right. My limited experience this week viewing from light-polluted London seems to confirm that. I find even the 2mm setting usable

However, I'd like something somewhere between 17x and 108x - so I suppose something in the 40x area.

Unless I can get another fast zoom?

Thanks

Marcos

What is your budget?

My 8mm and 13mm LVWs works very well on my 80/480 and I highly recommend those. The Pentax XL 8-24mm zoom is another good performer, although the field is a bit narrow in the long end.

Others to consider. Celestron Xcel LX if you are on a budget, Pentax XF/XL/XW if you are not.
