Storing a dew-laden telescope

Recommended Posts

My Explorer 200P was covered in dew last night. In fact, everything was covered!

Anyway, apparently I made a silly mistake when I popped it back in the cold garage: I replaced the dust cap, placed the tube vertically on the floor (open end up) and thought no more about it until this morning when I thought I'd try collimating it. I removed the dust cap and, to my horror, realised the primary mirror was still covered in dew. A blast of warm air solved it but what should I normally do when storing my telescope in the shed when it's dew-laden?

When I take my dew laden scope in for the night I take the dust caps from the scope and eyepiece and leave it elevated with the mirror end at the high point to prevent dew running onto the mirror.

I leave it like this 'til the next morning.
