Skywatcher or Celestron guide scope?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been looking at buying a skywatcher Startravel ST80 to use as a Guidescope but have noticed that Currys are doing the celestron Travelscope 70 for £53.99 as opposed to the skywatcher at £90.

specs are as follows

Celestron 70mm dia skywatcher 80mm dia

Focal length 400mm 400mm

focal ratio 5.7 Focal ratio 5.0

finder 5x24 finder 6x30

weight 1.5kg weight ?

Is the extra 10mm dia aperture worth the £36 extra, as some people use 9x50 finders and these are both bigger and better than that also the celestron isnt much difference in price to a 9x50.

Only thing that I can think of is that this isnt a true Celestron and is basically a rebadged Tasco or similar.

Kev.
