celestron or skywatcher

Recommended Posts

I'm not an owner, but I think they're both great scopes and are very much the same; they're certainly manufactured by the same company and judging by popularity at this sight, the Max 127 seems to favour better than the Omni xlt 127. Nevertheless, I have read that the latter has a better quality stand and better quality components. Both, as you are aware, are composite reflectors which indicate little collimation but may need longer cool down than other refractor types.

I think the Omni is the classic C-5 and you can read about it here: Celestron C5 - Review. Again, you might find these useful: http://stargazerslounge.com/beginners-help-advice/128176-evostar-120-vs-skymax-127-a.html; http://stargazerslounge.com/discussions-scopes-whole-setups/158319-skymax-127-omni-xlt-127-a.html http://stargazerslounge.com/discussions-scopes-whole-setups/135165-skymax-127-vs-omni-xlt-127-vs.html. And if you read to the end of this review, you might find a useful thing or two: Highlands Astronomical Society | Skymax 127.

Hope that helps a little.

Both are the same ota made by the same firm ie synta however imo the celestron just edges it on the mount. the software is a little more user friendly and zippier so the goto is just a bit better. By the way they are maksutov cassegrains (mak) not schmidt cassegrains (sct) so It's not a c5 (sorry that came out a little snippy It was meant for information not point scoring apologies qualia if it sounded like that The omni xlt is in fact a c5 though but the 127slt is a mak)
