Autoguiding an NS8GPS

This last week, after obtaining my off axis guider, I hooked up PHD to my laptop, and my laptop to the NS8GPS HC, but PHD states that the attached mount does not support the PulseGuide() command. Is this a showstopper? Or should I be looking at a ShoeString GPUSB unit to plug into the Auto Guide ST-4 port instead?

Any help you can give this guiding newbie would be greatly appreciated.
