Phillips SPC880NC

Recommended Posts

Guys hope you are all fine, question for you all, I have just bought a SPC880NC cam and was told it could be flashed. When I connected this to my windows 7 pc it didnt recognise the cam but when I told it to find driver it loaded up as SPC900NC. So is it a 880 or a 900? is there a way to find out if it has already been flashed? and as being new to astrophotograph what is the software you would recommed I use with cam?

You can only flash the camera from a PC running XP.

You run the application on the XP PC with the 880 connected and then load the BIN file to the camera via that software. Once flashed it will be detected under Win7

If the camera is recognised as a SPC900 then the firmware has been flashed. Wxastrocapture Sharpcap, Firecapture or Craterlet are the most popular capture programs (I recommend Craterlet as a beginners program). For AVI stacking there is Registax (try version 5 before using version 6, Avistack., A couple of other programs to have for creating lunar mosaics are Microsoft ICE and iMerge

A capture program will identify the camera as A SPC900 if it has been flashed and you should bee able to get an image.

Download Sharpcap, or any of the other apps that Peter suggested and see if it connects to the camera - if it does then yes it's flashed and has the 900 firmware. If it doesn't and device manager is showing it as a 900 then you could either try re-installing the driver manually (I think I had to do this on my Win7 machine) - or the camera needs re-flashing ?
