Noob Question

Hi all,

Really enjoyed first light with a Skywatcher 1145p Goto last night.

This is my second foray into astronomy after dipping a toe about 20 years ago. I ended up with the 1145p as I Know I'll end up getting something bigger in a year or so, and will keep it for the kids (easier for them to use so should keep them interested).

Anyway, noob question no.1 of many. Why does the mirror cover come in two pieces? It has an inner section and an outer which is the whole diameter of the tube. So far I've just been taking the whole lot off, max light and all that.

It's for reducing light whilst looking at the moon

Take just the inner cap off if you find viewing the moon too bright, otherwise take off the whole cover.
