Drift align procedure question

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, Im glad to be here :)

I am new to the forum and pretty new to amateur astronomy. Im always scanning these and other forums for tips and advice. I was a little lost about something and I was wondering if I could get some help. I have a question regarding drift aligning (which I have not yet attempted).

All the instructions Ive read about process involves picking a star at or near meridian at 0deg elevation. The 0deg elevation to me sounds like setting the mount to the horizon? When I look at my Stellarium program (when i set it in eq mode) it shows 0deg at the celestial equator. Should I be looking for a star at the equator or the horizon (which sounds like insanity to me haha)

Any help would be much appreciated!
