Skooby
what zoom lens would you recommend for close up detail of the planets especially Jupiter to maybe see the great red spot. It would be for my 12" skywatcher dob? John
The Baader Hyperion 8-24mm zoom is popular. It's not quite as crisp and contrasty as fixed focal length equivalent eyepieces from my experience but a very good zoom nonetheless. If your pockets are deep then the Pentax XL 8-24mm will compete with some of the best fixed focal length eyepieces.

DOBBY
the click-stop zoom from hyperion should work well with your 'scope if you want a 'zoom' but, several makes of individual eyepieces will give better views ie. celestron X-Cel LX or televue... or even the budget range of BST explorers
tom33pr
Skooby, Before investing in a zoom, I'd do some research and see what options you have for the budget. As it's been mentioned already here - the individual eyepieces perform better.
