Yes, but it would have been a challenge with those even at its brightest, when it was about mag 10. Extragalactic supernovae are so far away that a mag 10 is considered to be pretty bright. However, we are about due for one in our own galaxy which, provided the dust clouds aren't in the way, could be a daytime object!
