Is it possible to swap mounts on a scope? i.e from equatorial to alt-azimuth. i am new to this but the equatorial system seem very complicated, whereas the alt-azimuth system seems well suited to a "point and shoot" style of astronomy..

ive seen pictures of a SW150pl in an alt-az (home made) mount so i guess so.

I've used a Skywatcher 150P on an alt-azimuth mount (a Skywatcher Skytee 1) and it worked well. I use my 10" F/4.8 newtonian on an Giro-type alt-az mount and it's a dead simple, portable combination.

Alt Az is nice for visual and can be good for planetary, lunar and solar imaging but it has no future in deep sky astrophotography. Don't get involved in wedges.
