Size of Dob Mount 200P

Recommended Posts

They are not collapseable, but they don't take up too much room. If you're moderately good at DIY you could make a lighter and more low-profile mount out of plywood. You could leave the tube unchanged and make a mount that looks like this: Teeter's Telescopes, LLC - Catalog The base of most mass-produced scopes is circular and so takes up more room. Also, those scopes are built out of particle-board, which is heavy as it's full of glue. If you went all-out and re-built the tube then you could get most of the weight at the mirror end, which would shift the centre of gravity downwards and allow for a shorter base. This would not only be more stable but would take up less space. That's shown here: www.teeterstelescopes.com/images/canadascope7.jpg
