Finder scope questions

Recommended Posts

Looking at a 200/250p dob and seems most folks look to upgrade the finder scope so it can be viewed from the side, with a right angle viewer or star diagonal, are they the same thing?

Does the straight through finder scope invert the image the same way as the reflector, and does the conversion mentioned above change that? Seems to me you'd want both scopes showing the same orientation of image, for ease of use?

A Newtonian - that is what a Dob is - inverts and gives a mirror image left to right as does a straight through finder scope.

A RACI - Right Angle Correct Image - finder does as it's name suggests and presents an upright image with completely corrected left/right image orientation. This is very handy as you can look at a star map and move your finder without having to do any mental swapping of postions.

HTH.
