Powering a Meade ETX80

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to work out how to power a Meade ETX80, other than by the battery pack and 6 1.5v AA batteries, which seem woefully inadequate.

I have purchase a cigarette transformer from Maplins to change my 12v power tank to 9v. I have also purchased a 1.2mm jack socket and press stud connection, as per photos.

I've wired the jack socket up the wrong way round so it connects with press studs of the scope.

I'm not getting any power to the scope though. The transformer works at 12v with my motor driven EQ4.

Any ideas please?

Hi TheThing,

If you are getting voltage all the way to the end I can only think you have reversed polarity somewhere in the chain of connectors. Have you tried swapping over at the press stud end?? Simple multimeter will check polarity and continuity.

Hi, have you confirmed all of the polarities are correct through out the length of the cable and connectors?

You should be ok doing this I used to do this for an ETX70 a few years back, although I used a SW powertank which has a dedicated 9v output.
