Spent so much on a scope can't afford a camera for the foreseeable but I can borrow a Canon eos 10d. Choice of hooking it up to ST102 az goto or SL250PX goto dob. Can anyone tell me what I might reasonably expect with those combinations and what settings I should apply?

Ta!

Hi Chris - I can't really answer your query re: the dob, but if the ST102 Synscan AZ goto mount is like this one First Light Optics - Skywatcher Startravel 102 SynScan AZ GOTO then you may find that putting a DSLR on the end of the scope (ie prime focus) is simply too heavy. If you can somehow balance it with a weight at the front you may be able to get away with it, and although it was fine for lunar/planetary imaging with a Toucam, I eventually bit the bullet and bought an EQ synscan mount.

Imaging with AZ mounts isn't ideal though as you can get object rotation, especially if you haven't acurately polar-aligned... which isn't easy with an AZ mount, but as I said, I can't really comment on using the dob, but again I would imagine that balance would be pretty key.
