orion ccd imager to camera?

Recommended Posts

I am in the middle of an experiment with the same set up.

I have attached my phillips SPC900 to a camera lens via an adapter I turned up on a lathe.

I had run out of aluminium and nylon bar so I turned up the adapter from a block of wood off an old pallet.

After reading up on camera lenses and the average distance they are from the ccd chip I made the adapter 30mm in length.

When you add this to the 10 to 15 mm gap between the camera body and the chip it gives me a total gap between the rear of the lens and the chip of around 40 to 45mm.

I have managed to grab a couple of tries with it through the never ending clouds and fog and it looks very promising indeed.

Last night I managed to get Jupiter in focus, mind holding the camera in one hand and keeping it pointed at Jupiter whilst operating the laptop with the other was quite a challange in itself

My goal is to see if I can create a guide camera for my setup.

I fabricated a mount for it today and got it set up on the scope just in time for the clouds to roll back in and end the test session.
