C9.25 on a Celestron 6/8se mount

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a celestron 6se and have been considering upgrading to the 8" tube assembly. However I was wondering if anyone has tried the C9.25 OTA on the mount?

Also would you consider the £800 investment in the 8" assembly and value for money upgrade over my current 6" setup?

I think you will find the 9.25 SCT too big and heavy for your mount. The increased focal length won't be practicable on an SE mount - the image will dance around too much as soon as you try and focus the scope or even touch it, I fear.

I had the chance to put an 8 inch ota on my mount at kelling and i hated it. You lose the ability to keep the scope attached to the arm and the scope, the diaganal seems very close to the mount. If i had just the 6se and were looking for more apature i think i would leave the 6se as a portable setup and buy somthing like a 12" dobsonian.
