The F-word... Filters.

I'm currently thinking more of filters to add a bit of spice.

Gearwise I'm using the Pentax SDP with 2" connection to the rest of the train: ATIK OAG, EFW2 5x2", 383L+. I know the setup has a lot of potential.

Timewise I have limited time with a not so good position and a non-fixed setup; however on star parties I'd like to get the most out of the time.

I have 2" Baader IR/UV and Neodymium filters to cut out the light pollution.

I'm considering the following:

2" Baader LRBG parfocal

2" Astrodon RGB

The question I have is really around how much difference am I likely to get out of the astrodon filters compared to the Baader? Are the other alternatives?

Astronomik filters are somewher in the middle.

I have Baader myself as I am still very much learning the ropes and don't yet have a fixed obsy.

As (hopefully) my skill at imaging and processing starts to run into the limits of the Baaders I will upgrade. For the moment, and possibly quite some time, the Baader's will do fine for me.

That parfocal interference Baader set doesn't rather has any limits. In my case it works nicely. Compared to Orion LRGB filters I had they are bit brighter, mostly red and green due to limited LP cut-out and inclusion of S-II.

I didn't mean to suggest they were bad, merely that i use them and if i ever reach a point where i feel it is the filter holding me back i will think about replacing them then. A long way off, lol

Just an update - I've ordered the 2" Baader Parfocal LRGB set.

They arrived yesterday.

I noticed the L filter is the same part code as the seperate IR/UV cut filter.

That's what the L filter is, a IR/UV cut.

Yup I wasn't sure if it was the exactly the same part - it is.

So my 5 filter wheels positions are:

1. L - IR/UV Cut

2. R

3. G

4. B

5. Neodynum
