steppenwolf
Unfortunately, a DSLR is not the ideal tool for capturing the planets as you really need to take loads (hundreds!) of short frames using a high frame-rate camera and stack them but, it can be done. There are two possible options rather than cropping from a prime focus image:-1. use a Barlow lens or similar 'amplifier'2. use the projection method to project an image from your eyepiece into the camera to gain magnification.Cropping in on your existing images is likely to disappoint.
