Broken Meade etx70 as a guide scope?

Hi, ever since my etx70 was ran over its never been the same haha. I can only point it these days. I was thinking that I could take it off its mount and use it as a scope for guiding my future set-up. Doing that would save me a few pounds I hope? Would this work?

But will i need to auto guide it for ages to cook a whole sheep. Ants cook fast i guess.

It should do OK, I'd have thought? For guiding, that is. For barbeques and heretics I always use the 20 inch. More humane.
