Why oh why?

After doing the usual blacking on the lens edge and touching up any non black bits on the inside of the tube of the ST80, looked in the lens and there was some form of circular reflection from the eyepiece end. Investigation showed it to be the chromed end nosepieces of the diagonal or the eyepiece.

Why do they chromium plate these bits, just for looks?

Its probably cheaper than anodising them black.
