Mountain Peaks Floating in the Darkness

I spent an hour looking at the nearly full Moon tonight. I was thrilled to see a couple of mountain peaks lit up by the Sun but floating in darkness as though they were fireflies buzzing the surface. Most spectacular was a large mountain close to the limb between Mare Crisium / Mare Fecunditatis that resembled Mont Blanc. Anyone have any ideas what it is? :)
