Lens Field of view chart

Hi to all,

Can someone teach me how to generate a lens FOV chart for APSC size DSLR? So that I can print it on Tracing paper.

You could use a simple spreadsheet to generate the FOV dimensions using the following code:-

=DEGREES(2*ATAN(B10/(2*B5)))

Where cell B10 is the width or depth of the sensor in mm and cell B5 is the focal length in mm

It would then be a simple task to draw the relevant rectangles at a scale to match your existing charts.

Of course you can use many planetarium programs to do this but I suspect that you like your paper charts - and why not!

If that's the only impediment I'll send you a spreadsheet all ready to go! If you're looking for something to generate the rectangles automatically, sorry, can't help further.

just copy and paste above mentioned formula to excel and make sure in cell B10 you will input sensor size in mm and in cell B5 focal length in mm
