Celestron EQ2 mount

Recommended Posts

I have a Celestron refractor on what looks like an EQ2 mount. There seems to be a lot of lost motion around the RA axis. i.e. when lock the RA the alignment moves due to what looks like lost motion as though the RA axis is loose in the body of the scope. There is a large recesssed locknut on the end of the RA axis but I cannot find a socket to fit it. Anyone have any experience of taking (this) mount apart?

If it the SW eq2 mount then it sound the same thing that happened to mine. If you look into the gap by the RA slowmo then you can see the thread isn't one continuous piece but infact two, with mine the rear part had moved out of it hole giving about 15 degrees of movement, just push it back in with a screwdriver, it should ping back in quite easily.
