Hi all

New to this but looking at 8SE for1st telescope, but got the chance of a C8

I know they're different but what are they and is it worth going for the the C8 as its a couple of hundred cheaper - both will be 2nd user.

Thanks in advance

Regards Jeff

There have been lots of different models of C8 through the years (the 8SE was just one of those) - can you be a bit more specific about which model you are now looking at ?.

C8's are generally good but you don't need to pay big bucks for them. An older model should be well under £500 for the whole scope and much less for just an optical tube.

Celestron C8+ Advanced Astromaster

Lovely condition C8+ SCT with Advanced Astromaster Digital Encoding computer (+10000 objects). Also includes 6x30 finder, handset, telrad, piggyback mount, dewshield and hyper-accurate digital focuser

This is all the add said going for around 650 - 700

I bought a C8+ with a RA drive but without the Astromaster computer about 3 years back. It was a private sale and cost £350. That was a good buy but these models are 10+ years old. IMHO you would be buying an optical tube assembly as you have no guarantee on how long the mount will go on working and if it develops a problem you are in difficulties as spares for older mounts of that type are going to be very hard to get hold of.

One for a Celestron C8 specialist perhaps ?.
