How to combined Ha for Galaxies ?

I have used the tried and tested methods for combining Ha into Nebula images and got some great results thanks to Olly and co.

But how do you do it for galaxies ?

The method I am using is to stack the Ha and Red channels together in DSS and process as normal...

How do you do it and is there a better way as I find trying to combine the Ha to a LRGB image just reddens the background stars etc.
