Hi in reply yeah i use stellarium and have aligned the finderscope i tell you one thing i didnt mention as its a dobsonian i have difficulty finding things because of the way they work i.e upside-down and knowing what way to move the scope because its all backwards. For example say you see on paper or app that a star or galaxy is say to the left of the point your on i guess this means you move right and up is down. I know i said ive seen Jupiter and saturn they were quite easy its more the star hopping with the dob and yes i think ill purchase a red dop finder.

Thanks all ive herd about trying a wide angle eyepiece lots of good advice. I prefer star gazing in the winter just because you dont need to stay up until the late late hours. I dont mind this in the summer occasionally just my job starting early stops this but come winter you can star gaze from 6pm great stuff you just need a thick coat.

Hi so I bought a messier 6" dobsonian i know everyone says start at 8" but it came down to money at the time anyway. What i need help with is trying to find galaxies ie ive been looking for andromeda i know where it is just down from the triangle of cassiopiea. So when looking through the telescope im struggling to find it first the finder scope which is the standard on is difficult to use plus i wear glasses doesnt seem to be easy so i point the scope in the general area. Know ive seen images off what you will see through different scopes and eyepiece apparently i should be seeing a slightly zoomed in galaxy so maybe not the edges slight haze and the core basically not the whole object a bit zoomed in. Im using a 6" dobsonian with the standard 25mm eyepiece. When ive pointed it at Jupiter and saturn i used my barlow lense x3 it was amazing and i did culminate the scope. Basically im struggling with locating and seeing galaxies. Just to say i have seen the orion nebula it was great just annoyed im looking up and seeing loads of stars and not knowing if its the galaxy. Any help sorry for waffling a bit.

So I bought the BRESSER MESSIER 6"DOBSONIAN from firstlightoptics.com delivery was fast although the box smelt of sick 😆. The scope seems to be very good quality the one thing i will say is the mount handles that you use to manoeuvre the scope are prone to jump out of alignment see they are not cliped in they just fit into froves and friction glide say north to south. Its slightly annoying because it scratches the top of the base the handles sit on guess i just have to be gentle not that im thrashing it. That aside ive used the standard eyepiece think its a 25mm Plössl eyepiece on the moon 🌙 very clean and crisp. Also used my 3x barlow lense withe the 25mm Plössl to look at mars now i know its not going to be like ud see from the Internet and more like a bright dot to be honest i was suprised how good it was id say bout the size of a pea i could see the red and orange colouring i tracked it across my eyepiece lost it a couple of times but thats the fun i think with a dobsonian. Whilst trying to find it again i came across star clusters which ignited my lust of the night sky only to be cut short by clouds. So in conclusion for what it is a 6"dobsonian its bloody worth it i paid £300 i think its now cheaper not sure but id definitely recommend it if you are looking for ur first scope or like me an upgrade 😉.

Hi just bought a bresser messier 6" dobsonian telescope id like to purchase an eyepiece specifically for DSO any suggestions ps id like it to be within £30 i know more money you get better eyepieces but as im relatively new to it all im not going to spend a fortune...

I wanted to hesr a comment like that to be honest its just everytime you search mostly people will say bigger equals more light better views. I guess this is true but also i believe that you can do great things with smaller scopes i mean just because they r smaller doesnt mean they are all rubbish. I will enjoy the 6" bresser i know i will.

Now back to the eyepieces would the 25-35mm magnification still be good for this scope for dso or would i require something lesser.

Ive decided to go with the bresser 6" as its available now and i figure this size is king works all the way surley 10" better than 8" and so on so i think whatever you have its all about enjoying the skys above i remember seeing things theough my old 70mm Refractor surley a 6" reflector will blow me away then...

Also either way i go i want a good wide angle eyepiece ive heard a 9mm one could be good. Any advice this would be qn eyepiece for DSO

Hi so update ive ordered a skywatcher skyliner 200p dobsonian telescope from wex photos for less than 300 including postage but its not yet in stock i could leave it. Or buy the bresser messier 150 right now not sure what to do i know size is everything lol but is the bresser 150 good enough to satisfy my Astronomical needs. See ive got the old ichy feet either wait or buy the lesser right now... help i csrnt decide.

Thanks guys for the comments and advice real great stuff the good thing is i carnt purchase right now ive got the cash its a case of other things happening that might need the money and not upsetting the wife lol !!. So for now im gazing up using the travel scope 70 which is a great little thing i feel it opens up the mind get the enthusiasm going. Its not the best but ots a fantastic little scope (better than plane eyesite anyway). Ive recently moved from Essex to Lincolnshire loving the dark skys im a postman and some mornings when i get up im blown away by how clear the sky is and how much you can see. Anyway enough ranting on I just look forward to when the time comes checking out a little DSO in more detail. Thanks again !!!

Yeah ive been all over ebay your right there is some good chesp stuff on there. Think ill go with the 8" dob then. Maybe purchase a nice wide angle eyepiece too.

Hi ive looked at both its one of those things where theres so much out there ypu just need to make a decision i have looked at the 8"dobsoinan just seems at mo that they are hard to find in stock i know astrophotography is a huge other world am not looking to get all professional images just the occasional shots here and there. Really i want to explore more DSO.

Hi i have a travel scope 70 its a great little scope but I want to progress I dont have a huge budget bout £300 ive been looking and looking im thinking of a reflector with eq mount or a dob say 6"or8" im aware that size really is everything in this game. I also know that for that budget im not going to end up with a show stopper. Ive been looking at a visionking 150/1200 newtonian reflector. It came up seems very cheap i asume its got cheap parts im aware that u can upgrade bits i.e eyepieces etc. I was looking at a celestron 130eq prior to seeing this one i know that 150 must be better than 130 also i have a very good nikon dslr if i was to get a t ring and dabble in a little astrophotography as a little sideline prodect. Basically does anyone know weather or not this scope would be a good move its about £250 ish. Or any other advice on good scopes for this budget. Thanks 😊
