  1. Hi @geeklee thank you for this, I have no coma corrector but the scope was collimated before the session, guiding was not to bad at all, i did some 5min subs as well and no visible trails where noticed, I settled for 3mins as thought this was the reason i wasn't getting any colour, but i will look at maybe trying again without the filter to see what benefits this holds. I'm bortle 5 skies so light pollution really hits hard on subs that are long. what's the difference between a field flattener and a coma corrector ? as you mentioned i get artifacts around the stars is this the elongated stars around the edge of the image? and is that what a field flattener will reduce ?
  2. Hi all, I have had a go at bodes and the cigar galaxy last night but i am really struggling to get any colour in the stars and feel that the galaxies themselves should have more detail, i was hoping that someone could let me know if this is a processing issue (maybe to heavy on the curves) and quite new to PS or if this is a camera setting (iso to high ??). subs are 180s iso 800 x 40 with a canon 100d (unmodified) with a CLS clip in filter, through a skywatcher 200p, PHD2 for guiding dss for stacking and photoshop for editing . I have attached the TIFF and what i have managed to achieve with PS thank you for any help bodes.TIF
  3. I have bit the bullet and gone for the 600d.. Thank you for your advice and roll on Friday when it arrives... (you know them clouds are gonna roll in!!)
  4. I sore it. Its sold now.. Well gutted lol
  5. I was also looking at Gary hollis website when I did the ir removal on the 300d.. I'll have a look at that.
  6. Thank you for the advice, ohh decisions.. I am liking the low noise of the 450d so far.
  7. Hi all, my dinosaur of a dslr gave up last night after getting probably my best image so far.. (Definitely died fighting!) so I now need a replacement.. Money is a massive factor so it will be on the used market and realistically no more than about the £200 region... I know.. Its not much... But my dinosaur was a Canon 300d that I modded with a ir removal. I am torn between a canon 350d/450d/100d or 20d I have no experience with nikon so if there is an alternative I would be open. All of these cameras are a massive step up from mine so any help would be great. Many thanks Cal Here is also the dying image of the 300d!
  8. Hi, am looking for some advice as I am stumped!! I'm trying to build a peltier cooler to cool my dslr camera and having issues.. I have a tec 1- 12706 peltier module with a w1209 digital thermostat with a cpu fan and heatsink.. The fan is powered by a 9v battery, the peltier module is powered by a 12v dc adapter and the digital thermostat is powered by a separate 12v dc adapter.. I have done it this way to find out what is failing and it is the peltier cooler, It will cool the aluminium sheet by 5 degrees c and then short from what I have gathered this should cool at lot more cooler than 5 degrees ambient temperature any ideas???
  9. Wow.. That is incredible.. Please could you let me know how you have managed that without the sky going red or noisy? Any help to get that kind of result would be amazing.. Thank you, that has opened my eyes that I have some way to go with learning ps
  10. Hi All, Newbie here! I have an image of M101 that i have got to a point where i cannot improve this anymore and wanted to know if anybody can help me or if i would just need more exposure time. going by the histogram on the back of the camera at 2mins this was in the centre so i thought extending the exposure time will over exposure and washout, however when stacking the images where a nice dark colour and didnt seem washed at all ! .. should i be paying less attention to the histogram on the back of the camera and could i have increased time to maybe 5mins or more ? (I do have a CLS filter on its way so hoping that this will help with light pollution etc..)im under Bortle 5 skies if that helps at all ) roll on postman!!!!! It was taken with: 2 min exposure x 73, darks x20, flats x50, bias x50 iso 800 camera was a unmodified canon 10d, through a skywatcher 200p, guided with skywatcher synguider through a celestron 80mm guidescope mounted on HEQ5 Pro I have been using PHotoshop CS5 to process and stacked with DSS however my PS experience is limited any advice help or pointers would be great attached is my attempt along with the tiff unprocessed . many thanks for all help callum Autosave.tif
  11. will do, its looking like its going to be clear tonight, so i will give this another go tonight and post my findings, in relation to the Flats and Bias, have i gone to the extreme taking this many or is more better ?
  12. Thank you for the quick reply, Thats what i was finding with the right side, i thought it was just my lack of experience on PS.. regarding capture software i am unable to use any. the 10d canon will not work on any remote trigger software above 30secs due to being a ....well dinosaur ! .. so i have a remote shutter straight in the camera, the guiding i use is a standalone Skywatcher synguider I am debating upgrading the guider as dithering seems to be a must and at present i am unable to do this due to the synguider not being able to attach to a laptop. thank you for looking at this an i will try again tonight with lower subs and higher iso .
  13. Hi All, I have tried taking a image of the bubble nebula and cannot get hardly any detail out of this , Firstly i have taken this with an unmoddifed 10d (i have just modified a 300d but waiting for the camera release cable to be delivered) this is taken through a skywatcher 200p reflector on a HEQ5 Pro and guided with a celestron 80mm Image was RAW with 10 lights at iso 400 7mins each. dark frames x15. Bias frames x 210 . and flats x244 so my questions are: am i trying the impossible and should just wait until i can use the 300d modified above 30sec subs is it because i haven't taken enough lights the iso is to low or the one i am hoping !!!!! my photoshop knowledge is just rubbish and need more experience with this ! On a side note do i really need to take this many flats and bias frames (as these are short shots i thought take as many as possible) the tiff file is attached and any help or advice is more than welcome thank you so much Callum Autosave.tif
  14. Lol.. Scary when doing it, but so satisfying when you see the screen come back on and still work!!
